Taj Mahal

The Legend

This mausoleum was built to honor the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, wife of the Moghul Emperor, Shah Jehan. The complex was commissioned in 1632 and took 20 years with 22000 artisans and 1000 elephants to complete. The Taj Mahal was constructed of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones such as jade, crystal, lapis lazuli, amethyst, and turquoise.

Today, over 3 million people a year visit the Taj Mahal. They come from all over India and the far corners of the world. They include tourists, heads of state, and celebrities.
